garden sessions
Reconnecting with ourselves through relationship with the living world.
Ready to get off the therapy couch and get your hands in the dirt? These open-air sessions are an invitation to step outside, slow down, and reconnect with yourself through relationship with the living world. Together, we make space for grounding, nervous system regulation, movement, and the kind of analog human experience that can be harder to access within four walls. For those who spend a lot of time in their heads, the garden offers another way in—through the body, the senses, the seasons, and the land beneath our feet. No garden experience necessary.
What to expect
Rather than simply meeting outside, we'll return to the same garden plot throughout our work together, allowing you to build a relationship with a particular piece of land over time. As the seasons shift, we'll witness its cycles of growth, decay, dormancy, and emergence. Our time there will shift too: some days we might tend the garden, move, or get our hands in the soil; others we may simply sit, notice, and talk.
Garden Sessions are 50 minute individual sessions, offered seasonally from September–December and February–May at a communal garden just a five-minute drive from the office. To make the most of comfortable outdoor conditions, availability is limited.
Are garden sessions therapy?
You bet. Garden Sessions are therapy—just in a different setting. We can bring the same approaches, intentions, and goals from our office-based work into the garden, while staying curious about what the natural world might have to teach us. The land gives us something else to notice, respond to, and be in relationship with as our work unfolds.
Investment
Garden Sessions follow the same fee structure as office-based therapy. Your rate remains the same whether we meet indoors or out.

A note about our fee scale
The Sustain rate reflects the true cost of providing this work and a living wage. Taproot also offers rates above and below Sustain as part of our commitment to collective care and greater access to therapy. You'll be invited to thoughtfully self-select the rate that best reflects your circumstances, resources, and needs.
Things you might be wondering
-
Not at all. Garden Sessions are more about the setting than the activity - offering a more intuitive, agency-led experience, with room to follow your instincts and let our time evolve into whatever feels most supportive that day. If that’s hands in the dirt, I gotchu. If it’s sitting under a tree, I’ll bring the blanket.
-
Absolutely. We can move between garden and office sessions as we see fit. Texas weather will inevitably send us back inside from time to time anyway.
-
Because the garden is a communal space, others may occasionally be nearby. Sessions are scheduled outside of on-site programming to offer as much privacy as possible, and we can always adjust where we settle in if needed.
-
Working on it! First up is a reconnection and reclamation group for Black folks seeking to restore relationship with the land after generations of rupture caused by enslavement and displacement. More to come as the garden grows.
-
The garden includes uneven ground and natural pathways, which may not be accessible for everyone. We can always talk through any accommodations you may need and determine together whether the garden is a good fit for our work.
-
We’ll head inside. Rain, extreme temperatures, or other less-than-ideal conditions may move us back to the office. I’ll keep an eye on the forecast and let you know ahead of time whenever possible.
